Meter Reading

Locate Your Meter

Generally a meter box can be found in the front yard on the customer's side of the ditch line. The box is typically in a direct line with the front main outside faucet; however, some will be at the corner of a lot. Sometimes, a blue mark will be spray painted on the road, and you can walk back toward the house in a direct line to find it. It will be housed in a box flush with the ground. To see the meter, simply lift the lid up and off.

Reading Your Meter

To read your meter, locate your meter box, lift off the lid, and look down into the box. On the face of the meter, you will see a series of dials with numbers on them. Read the number display from left to right. Be sure to include the number after the . place. We read in thousands of gallons. Anything before the thousands place would be the reading we include for billing. Compare that reading to what your bill states as your current reading.

Compare Your Bill to the Meter Reading

Please keep in mind that you may be checking your meter on a different date than the one used for billing. You can subtract the reading on your bill from the reading on your meter to find how much water you have used since we last billed. If it is considerably high, you may want to look around for a leak or a source of large water use.
